Greetings,
In my last blog entry I talked about how I finished the manuscript for a story I will title ‘The Man From Mart.’
This weekend I focused on building a framework for re-writing this story and making it a story someone would enjoy reading and something worthy of being a sequel of ‘Out of The Ruins.’
The process and checklist I decided on was heavily influenced by ‘One Year to a Writing Life,’ by Susan Tiberghein, a writing manual which I have leaned on in the past.
If you are an aspiring writer, it is vital that you construct a process by which to re-write your book several times, from several angles, before putting it out there. This was a lesson that I learned the hard way, although the second time around, the process is much easier because I am now merely falling back on my previous work and refining it further. For next time.
Have a look at my process and checklist for re-writing Man From Mart. I wrote it down in my notebook, here:
As you can see above, I plan to go through six rounds of re-writing this story; each round focusing on one particular aspect of my story. It may seem tedious, but you will find it much better than having to un-publish a story you’ve written, pull it back in and re-do it from scratch. It is processes like these that separate the serious writers from the uncommitted.
